Jasper as derived from Greek, translates as ‘stone with spots’. But worldwide many colors are found, though not all of them collectable. The deep red and green jaspers are possibly the most valuable. A very hard stone, jasper it takes a lot of skilled labor to shape a sphere or obelisk. Both were in demand to complete classic Kunstkammers, which were very much de rigueur in the Age of the Renaissance.AM occasionally brings in hand cut and polished Jasper spheres and obelisk shapes. For collectors AM also offers spheres in petrified mahogany and petrified coral.
