No Cabinet of Curiosities, or Kunstkammer as the German royalty called it, was complete without a collection of exotic shells. At a time when minute sailing vessels (compared to our modern freighters) transported spices and bullion across treacherous oceans, space was in short supply. Some shells were worth their weight in gold during the age of exploration.
