AM124 Rain Drum, Tall
Crafted by artisans in Southeast Asia, cast bronze rain drums served a variety of purposes in ancient societies. The deep sound of the drum was thought to summon nature gods and bring forth rain. It was also believed that the drum’s symbols of power and fertility (frogs, elephants, a radiating sun) accorded good fortune and prestige to its owner. In a contemporary setting the drum can be used as a table (a glass top can be added), a stool, or simply as tasteful décor.
