Rudolf II ruled the Holy Roman Empire from Prague. It was there that he collected a coterie of the most famous painters, sculptors, goldsmiths, and other respected artists. The 16th C. Dutch artist Joris Hoefnagel was famous for his drawings and engravings of plants and animals. Invited to Rudolf’s court, Hoefnagel painted the illustrations for a Model Book of Calligraphy called Mira Calligraphiae Monumenta. The calligraphy was executed by the famous Georg Bocskay. Our faithful replicas are hand painted. Not a single brush line, not one word or embellished initial is replicated mechanically.
